what is argon?
- Argon is a gaseous chemical element that makes up almost 1% of the Earth's atmosphere.
- Argon was discovered by Sir William Ramsay and Baron Rayleigh in 1894 and it was named from the Greek word argos (meaning inactive).
- Argon is used in electric lights and in fluorescent tubes, photo tubes, glow tubes, and in lasers. and is obtained from the air.
- Like other noble gases, such as helium, neon, and krypton argon was initially believed to be totally inert (lacking ability to move) meaning that it isn't known to make compound chemicals nor react to things.
